maC Semesterworks

Across Two Spaces

The MA Choreography students have spent several weeks researching and rehearsing for their semester projects and now present their works to the public. Spread over two weekends, the program consists of six pieces shown at two different venues. Each evening offers three works.

Starting from their individual questions and topics, each student develops their own artistic approach and signature. This results in a series of diverse configurations and formats – sometimes focused, sometimes open, sometimes experimental – inviting the audience to experience various perspectives on choreographic work.

These are the first three projects in the series:

"Two Part Horizon" by Hubert Mielke
Two Part Horizon presents the cinematic portrait as an interface between the individual and the present. In the footage, faces appear not only as personal reflections, but also as traces of social and historical conditions. The gaze on the portrait shifts between projection and observation, drawing attention to the following questions: What significance does the face hold for our society? And in what way does the portrait transcend the individual?

Team: Hubert Mielke (film and installation) | Magdalena Negowska (performer) | Zara Wünsche (performer) | Conniff Carelse (performer) | Regina Baumgart (performer) | Tomasz Mielke (performer)

"Die Andere neben mir" by Emma Lusena Ash
Die Andere neben mir asks: Does independence mean being free? What happens when we allow ourselves to lose balance, to show ourselves as vulnerable, and to truly engage with our surroundings? What traces does this experience leave behind? What actually stays with us?
By embodying states of leaning and hanging, the dance piece Die Andere neben mir questions the ideal of the independent, upright subject and instead gives expression to an ek-stasis: a state of being outside one's own axis, inclined toward the other.

Team: Emma Lusena Ash (choreography) | Minjeong Geosmin Yang (dance) | Teresa Caputo (dramaturgy/philosophical input) | Rebecca Sabuzi (lighting design) | Rosa Caputo (music) | Claudia Skoda (costume)

"scatter" by Sophie Charlotte Becker
In the dance performance scatter, dispersion becomes a choreographic principle. Within a surreal spatial landscape of reflection and projection, bodies, images, and sounds scatter, disperse, and dissolve. Perceptions shift and multiply, merging and opening up new spaces of consciousness.

Team: Sophie Charlotte Becker (concept/choreography) | Renee Barbara Kuleš (dance/performance) | Špela Remec (dance/performance) | Jakob Schleiter (live camera/lighting) | Fiete Wachholtz (sound) | Philipp Eyselein (costume)
