Leo Naomi Baur

Freelance collaborator | Crip Choreo Care

Leo Naomi Baur (they/them) works in Berlin as a choreographer and video artist. They identify as trans* non-binary and chronically ill. Initially without formal training, Leo has been realising mostly collaborative and interdisciplinary productions since 2017, which have been presented at the Potsdamer Tanztage, the Berlin Performing Arts Festival, the Museum of European Cultures (MEK Berlin) and Berlin Fashion Week, among others. In the meantime, they completed the M.A. Performing Public Space at FONTYS (Tilburg, NL) and the maChoreography at HZT Berlin. They are co-founder of the network for dance and activism Urgent Bodies.

Leo explores choreographic video scenographies in the absence of live dance as a strategy to reinterpret the unavailability of their own body - away from trained associations such as ‘missing’, ‘failing’, ‘cancelling’, ‘absent’ and towards a curiosity for immaterial forms of co-presence. Leo is an expert in the design of Relaxed/Quiet Spaces, which they assemble landscape-like from ordinary objects such as cushions, mattresses, beanbags, etc. and passionately test themselves.

Leo has been the project co-director of Making a Difference since July 2024.

Leo supports the team of the Einstein-Strategic-Professorship of Claire Cunningham in the areas of documentation and access production.
