Milena Stein

Safe Mob

There is a body emerging from the twilight, composed of many limbs, speaking as one, but with many voices. The body moves through a fluid environment, engaged in the continuous process of becoming, sometimes crystallizing into a familiar shape, but most of the times defying to be defined and categorized.

In her piece 'Safe Mob', Milena Stein examines with four other performers what becoming together as a group can mean. How are bonds being made? What is connection?
In an oscillation between dissolving identities, attempts of merging into oneness and the friction of separation and disagreement, the piece speaks of the desire to connect and the uncanny yet exhilarating experience of encountering the other.

Plain language

In the dance piece 'Safe Mob' five performers explore what it means to come together as a group. The piece shows bodies that keep changing shape—sometimes forming something familiar, other times impossible to define. It asks: how do we create bonds? What does it mean to connect?
Through moments of merging, separating, and clashing, the work explores our deep wish to connect and the strange, exciting feeling of meeting someone else.

Milena Stein is a dancer and performer based in Berlin. She is fascinated by the potential for friction and warmth caused by genuine human encounters. Milena is looking for magic and finds it many times in improvised dance with other people, where transience and chance create surprising, deep and funny moments that nobody could have possibly planned.
