Passacaglia

Passacaglia is a duet that dwells into the tension between violence and spectacle, constraint and pleasure. The work looks at the marching body as a lens to open up questions concerning our relation to obedience in its different forms: conformity to order, an act of service, the result of brutality.

In a shifting movement landscape of repetition and choreographic precision, different figures emerge. From soldiers, to punks to fighters, the performers drill into exhaustion, as power dynamics oscillate: someone leads, someone serves, some else is lurking from the sides: who's enjoying it the most? A military training field is the backdrop to this feast, haunted by the specters of submission, humiliation, complicity. There is, maybe, an umcomfortably seductive power in those figures we despise. And there's a good boy in each of us, ready to please it.
