Mischa Leinkauf
Challenge Your Boundaries – A Lecture on handling Impossible Tasks

In connection to his artistic work, Mischa Leinkauf faced quite often unrealistic project tasks. On the one hand in terms of legal barriers, while trespassing to find the right location for shootings, for instance, and on the other hand in terms of his own physical possibilities. How to perform a handstand on the top of a church, reenacting a stunt from 1921? How to appropriate a highly secured architectural system like the subway system of Berlin in order to work there for weeks? Mischa Leinkauf’s lecture gives an insight into the development of his projects and his strategies for overcoming boundaries in order to realize artistic works.
Berlin raised and based artist Mischa Leinkauf works on installations and interventions dealing with the hidden possibilities of a city. Using various artistic strategies, the conversion of urban topographies and the exploration of its borders, he creates temporary irritations that allow new perspectives on 'everyday' situations. In his artistic practice, crossing the boundaries of individual freedom serves as an extension of artistic and societal scopes. To question common standards and constraints, Leinkauf "opens“ the city by using the architecture, the tools of urban spaces and his body. He is part of the artist duo Wermke/Leinkauf and has received numerous awards worldwide. His work has exhibited internationally in various solo and group exhibitions at venues such as HAM Helsinki Art Museum Finland, Moderna Museet Stockholm, Akademie der Künste Berlin, Manifesta 11 Zurich Switzerland, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo Japan, Museum of Contemporary Art Denmark. He has received numerous accolades for their work, including nominations for best German Short Film and European Film Award of European Film Academy.
