Body-Based Research at HZT Berlin

The body and its various articulations lie at the heart of the artistic and theoretical work at HZT Berlin. Building on this focus, a longer-term process dedicated to body-based research in the arts has been launched in the winter term 2025/26. Drawing on the practices of current and former HZT staff members and collaborators, the project brings together a variety of research approaches, contexts, and conditions for sharing and discussion.

We understand body-based research as a multivocal and multifaceted field; one that asks how the body carries and produces knowledge, how it is practiced and conceptualized, how it thinks and moves, and how it navigates questions of aesthetics, politics, and ethics. The project aims to document, map out, and situate body-based research within a wider landscape of artistic and transdisciplinary approaches to research, leading toward an open-source digital publication on the subject.
