Michael O’Connor is currently pursuing a PhD in artistic research at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Working at the intersection of cognitive science and movement, his artistic work attempts to recreate and articulate some of the basic building blocks of human perception as performative tools. He currently is a research fellow with THIRD, part of AHK DAS Graduate School, where he also obtained his Masters in Choreography. In recent years his work has been shown at the Venice Biennale, Detroit Film Festival, DansMakers Amsterdam, and ImpulsTanz Vienna, as well at linguistic, neuroscience and metaphor conferences. In 2008 he was listed in BalletTanz Magazine as the ‘young dancer to watch’ for his debut solo work a waiting dog dies. His work Tertiary was nominated for the Prize d’Jardin at ImpulsTanz. He has also worked with cie. Willi Dorner, David Zambrano, Deborah Hay. He is also a somatic coach and feedback facilitator.
