Sophia New

Examining Everyday Data

Sophia currently holds a qualification position at HZT where she is preparing to embark on a Phd by Publication she would therefore like to take this opportunity to share with you her reading and thinking though theories of the everday that relate to her ongoing practice of personal data collecting from which she makes art works. Borrowing such terms as the 'endotic' from Georg Perec and expanding upon what Michel De Certeau thought an Urban Text might look like, she considers the implication for creating works in twentyfirst century with such digital data as GPS and SMS.

The presentation will be moderated by the international curator Bettina Knaup, whose Phd looks at how Queer feminist artists deal with discarded matter and bodies, in a non-anthropocentric relation to waste in long durational performative encounters.
