Michiyasu Furutani

18

After two years of artistic and theoretical research at the HZT Berlin, the students of the MA Solo/Dance/Authorship will present their final works at the end of the year. During their master's studies, they dealt with questions of solo (performance), collaborative processes and composition within contemporary art practice.

Live acoustic sound, movement and a long pipe that defines the audience’s orientation in space set the scene for Michiyasu Furutani’s piece „I8“: a performative exploration of gravity and the physical reactions that it provokes. Based on different notations from dance and music, he examines elements such as falling, resonating and time at the intersections of prescribed scores and unexpected behaviour.

Choreographer and dancer Michiyasu Furutan was born in Osaka, Japan. His artistic work and physical practice are grounded in Butoh technique and in experimental approaches to touch through modern and classical dance as well as contact improvisation.
